Other than the "being made in Michigan" comment, I can't think of a thing ( unless, of course, the comment inferring that the Klipsch corner horns sound better).
Didn't the B's have black foam grills?

Bahahaha yep made here in Lansing...![]()
Give those guys a cigar! It cracked me up that this guy thinks Altec Lansing was named after/built in Lansing, Michigan. James B. wouldn't be amused..... Dave I like your additional observations although they weren't what I had in mind--that replacement grill cloth is UGLY and I wouldn't rate Klipsch above Altecs.....

OK..you got me..Ha Ha. I have been an Altec user/lover ever since my band bought a pair of VOT's used..Back in the 70's we kicked butt proudly with 2 pair per side.
I really do like the sound of my Klipschorns better than the Valencia's.
BTW..what is a fair price for my Valencia's in great shape..and yes the grill cloth is ugly..I guess the doctor that I bought them from 30 years ago thought they were "cool"..LOL.
LOL...Many of the good folks here are either former employees, or former contractors of the original and REAL Altec/Altec Lansing, so, of course all the Altec ads on ebay & other auction boards get scrutinized on just about every word. It's all in fun (I think), and for the protection of perspective buyers.
I would guess your 846's would be worth a little more than half of your "buy it now" price. They seem to be in good condition, and the 8 ohm versions (like yours) are more desireable by most.
You seem to be a very good sport. Good luck with your sale.
PS. For $5K, the Khorns better sound better to you.![]()
Around 800 for a good pair of Valencia's
Seller seems to be a decent fellow
Only other thing is they aren't especially rare, just nice.
I own a pair brought home in the back seat from Anaheim, You still could drive 66 then as it wasn't deactivated till the 80's. Oddly enough ran thru OKC.
Had a second pair bought later but sold those to a friend.

Your neighbors called. They like your music.
Glad you have a sense of humor--as Dave Sauro noted--my "chuckle" at your ad was all in good fun. At least I was chuckling at your ad, not at your speakers! They look to be in nice shape. IMHO Altecs like yours and Klipschorns are really an Apples and Oranges comparison--they have a very different "character" to them and of course personal preferences will vary. Keep in mind, the (H.F.) diaphragms in your Valencias are going on 40 years old. You might be surprised at how the Valencias sound, compared to the Klipsch, with a brand new pair of (authentic) replacement diaphragms from Great Plains Audio..... I'd agree with Old Guy's quote of $800 for a good pair of Valencias. I sold mine a couple years back for $1000 but they were (near) mint. Whoever buys them from you should be a happy camper--Valencias are great speakers....
BTW, I see you've updated your listing to show Anaheim, CA. Anyone here know who Bobwho is? Is that you Old Guy ("Old Timer" in the ad)?

first thing i thought was the Child as a Model.
i've seen enuff seller ignorance, that that sort of thing does not really register any more.
at about the same time this was a topic -
